Ive been having a shitty week. Well, month really. Im honest enough to just admit that. But, this morning, one of my youngest students marched into class with an important lesson for me. She gave me a big hug and said she had a surprise for me. That surprise, was an announcement that she had lost her first tooth, and she had a $5 bill and a note from the tooth fairy to prove it. She chose me to read the note aloud and share with the "song & dance" class of mostly 4 & 5 year olds. It brought joy and happiness to my heart. It reminded me, that even on shitty weeks, I still dont own all the problems in the world. It reminded me that sometimes students are teachers and teachers are students. It reminded me that surprises and wonder are rooted in perspective. I smiled. I took a deep breathe. I congratulated her and I thanked her. Today, I was reminded by a curly red head little person, what truly matters most. I decided in that moment to focus on the good. I decided today, that yesterday, would be my last shitty day.
Fresh outta fucks,
