I have definitely been MIA. And I don't mean in Miami. Somewhere between returning to the Northeast from Miami and today there was a spring? or so im told. I wouldn't know because I have lived in scripts, theaters, rehearsal rooms, meetings, auditions, subway cars, etc. To say it's been a full spring would be an understatement.
This past February I returned to my faculty posts at Institute of Music, Luna Stage and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Six days a week, I spent teaching and creating with my theater students. One of the highlights was a special partnership with the Johnny Mercer Foundation which afforded me the unique opportunity to lead over 100 kids in a musical theater writing workshop. From page to stage, I lead students from five inner city schools through the process of creating an original musical. Naturally, they picked an original musical concept about Beyonce. That was interesting to say the least! However, the culminating performance took place this Tuesday afternoon with a standing ovation to conclude the four month theater residency. One of my biggest accomplishments to date!
In addition to teaching, I will be ramping up on performing too. I am excited to announce that I will be apart of the Make Music NY Festival this June. This will be my second year participating as a performer in the festival. I also have a concert event at The Delancey on NYC’s Lower East Side on June 28th at 7pm. Additionally, through Miller Street Productions, I am currently developing and producing an original webseries entitled STRIVERS ROW. I hope to premiere it this fall. I will star in thenew series along with some of nycs up and coming blactors.
If that's not enough- I also cofounded and will artistic direct a new theater company in NJ. The Vanguard Theater Company (vanguardtheater.org) has been a dream of mine for years. With support from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders (which is where I grew up) that dream will become a reality this summer. We have a fundraiser scheduled this month and an upcoming production of HAIRSPRAY scheduled for August 2015. Casting is underway and fundraising is happening now. It is challenging and a lot of work. For more information on how you can support please contact us through our website www.vanguardtheater.org
Somewhere between all of this I find time to spend with family, friends and loved ones. I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of summer and more opportunities to create. I am in love with my life and so fortunate to be in such a busy place. On my worst day, I am recognize that I am beyond blessed, beyond booked and beyond grateful. It'd be awesome to see you at som! of my upcoming events. I cannot do any of this without the support of my family, friends, colleagues and supporters. You all deserve the applause!
